Morris Jennings FLSA Consulting Expert
I am originally from Crockett and Shelby Counties, Tennessee. My DOL career was in Texas (three locations).
My enforcement career involved investigations of employers to establish application of the FLSA (and other Wage and Hour Division laws), provide explanations to the employer of my conclusions, and negotiate for compliance and payment of back wages. I developed cases for litigation when appropriate, and I worked closely with the DOL Office of the Solicitor with regard to such cases (including providing testimony in federal court).
After retirement from the United States Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, I established a Wage and Hour consulting practice. Through the use of telephone conferences and email correspondence, consulting expert services are provided to employers, representatives of employers, and other clients - in all areas of the United States. I have worked with clients in thirty-five states. Additionally, I have provided expert witness services to attorneys.
I have presented FLSA information, explanations, and clarifications to the Employment Law Section of the Austin Bar Association and to a CPA association. I have also participated in seminars and teleconferences concerning FLSA intricacies, standards, and pitfalls, and I have spoken to trade associations and other employer groups.
My articles explaining FLSA provisions and complexities have been published in employer-oriented periodicals, and I was the primary author of an electronic manual concerning the "white collar" exemption regulations.
For six years, I was a member of the editorial advisory panel for an employment law newsletter that was marketed by a respected century-old publishing firm.
